The Ducks are Coming! March 8, at 9 am

The Somerset County Conservancy will be hosting a waterfowl identification outing at Somerset Lake on Saturday, March 8, at 9 AM.  We will start by meeting in the parking area at the Mike Ohler Pavilion on the lake’s north end, which is at about 300 Gilmour Rd for a GPS.

This should be a good time for migrating waterfowl which have been favoring the lake since it was refilled.  We cannot predict the flight but should get some nice migrants at that time.

The event will be held rain or shine – duck watching is often best in “fowl” weather!  The only exception would be if we get such cold weather that the lake is frozen over in which case we will push it back one week to March 15.  If that happens, we will send out an email before the day.

Bring any binoculars, scopes, and field guides you may have (we will have some loaners) and appropriate outerwear.  Hopefully the waterbirds will cooperate.

We will also discuss the plans of Somerset Lake being a stop on the nearby Conemaugh Valley Conservancy proposed Birding Trail.

This event will be hosted by Jeff Payne and possibly others.  No need to respond – we will be there if one participant or twenty!
