We are continuing to work on controlling invasive species of plants at Kimberly Run Natural Area. We have made a lot of progress in the field areas on the Menser side but it is time to individually treat some resprouts in the fields. We will be cutting mostly with loppers and then spot treating the stump area with a herbicide-this will be done under the direction of a PA Game Commission employee with a herbicide applicator’s license. We may also pull some cattails in the created wetland ponds near the parking lot-the thin- leaved cattail variety growing there can become a monoculture and crowd out the other plants.
Bring work gloves, sunscreen, water bottle and loppers if you have a pair. Water boots would be good for a couple folks to work on the cattails. If you can come to help try to reply to somersetconservancyevents@gmail.com . It will help us plan how much pizza to bring for lunch!
