Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Kimberly Run Natural Area

The Somerset County Conservancy is hosting a bird walk starting at 8:00 am at the main entrance at the end of Craig Rd.

Early May is the height of migration and the breeding birds. both our familiar residents and the summer visitors from the tropics, as well as, those species just passing through on their way further north, can all be present.

We will start our exploration in the mature hemlock and hardwoods, and then at about 9:30 am, move over to the Menser Rd. side of the property to observe the wetlands, fields and younger forest.

We will search all the various habitats and discuss how birds vary in their food and habitat needs especially during the crucial migration and nesting seasons.

All levels of birding skill and interest are welcome.  We will have a few loaner pairs of binoculars and will be discussing some of the birding apps, various bird books and end up with making an eBird list to add to the data accumulated around the world on this special day.

Jeff Payne and hopefully some of our other local birders will host this event and help all get onto some of our beautiful feathered denizens of the KRNA!  See you there at 8:00 am.
